Movember introduced as Official Men’s Health Partner of the Western Hockey League
Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today an expanded partnership with Movember, the leading global charity dedicated to men’s health, that brings Movember’s Breaking The Ice mental health program to all 23 WHL Clubs.
“The WHL is thrilled to extend its relationship with Movember,” commented WHL Commissioner Dan Near. “Our partnership with Movember reinforces the WHL’s commitment to player education and player support programs. Through Movember’s Breaking The Ice workshops, WHL players and staff receive valuable tools to support one another through their journeys as student athletes.”
Breaking The Ice is Movember’s mental health program built for the hockey community, designed with input from players, coaches and families. It delivers mental health literacy, resilience training and awareness campaigns across the full Club environment for players, coaches, and parents.
The 2026-27 season marks the second campaign in which WHL Clubs have participated in Movember’s Breaking The Ice workshops.
“Hockey is such an important part of life for so many young men in Canada, which makes the rink a powerful place to build healthier conversations around mental health,” said Ramond Phipps, Program Manager, Young Men’s Health, Movember. “Breaking the Ice is about reaching young men where they already are and making conversations about mental health a natural part of the hockey environment. By expanding our partnership with the WHL, we can help create a culture where young men feel more comfortable speaking up, looking out for their teammates and asking for help when they need it.”
The 2026-27 delivery of Movember’s Breaking The Ice workshop to WHL Clubs began in August.
Details on additional partnership activations with Movember will be announced in the coming weeks.
