WHL Announces Conclusion of Regular Season; Playoff Planning Underway
With the current concerns related to the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Portland Winterhawks fully support the Western Hockey League’s decision today to conclude the 2019-20 WHL regular season.
The WHL and the Board of Governors are currently planning to conduct the 2020 WHL Playoffs at a later date.
Following a meeting with the WHL Board of Governors and consultation with medical professionals, it was determined that the remaining 54 games on the 2019-20 WHL Regular Season schedule will be cancelled and not played.
Winterhawks finish first in U.S. Division; first in the WHL
The final regular season standings were determined based on winning percentage, meaning the Portland Winterhawks finished in first place with an overall record of 45-11-3-4 (.770 percentage) for 97 points in 63 games.
Players return home until further notice
The Portland Winterhawks also announced that its players have returned home to their families with plans to travel back to Portland as soon as the 2020 WHL Playoffs are announced.
