Warriors Clinch 3rd With Win Over Broncos
The Moose Jaw Warriors took care of business Saturday, downing the Swift Current Broncos 3-1 to finish their 2015-2016 regular season schedule.
The action was fast and furious throughout the first period as the team’s established a fast paced coming up the ice. They combined for 19 shots with the only goal coming two minutes in when Patrik Maier pinched off the blueline and joined a goal mouth scramble which finished with his fourth goal of the year.
Approaching the four minute mark of the second period Captain Brayden Point dangled his way through the Broncos along their left wall. Point set up Noah Gregor between the circles where he ripped in his 28th of the year.
Just in front of the midway point of the period the Warriors burst across the Broncos line. Dryden Hunt came inside the right and snapped a shot on his off-wing, beating goalie Travis Child for his WHL leading 58th goal of the year to make it 3-0.
Swift Current was able to get on the board at 15:39 of the second period when defenseman Max Lajoie handled the puck from the Warrior right wall and skating behind the net to the left goal line, connecting with Glenn Gawdin in front of the net where he snapped the puck in to make it 3-1.
The third period brought opportunities for both teams but neither were able to add to their totals and the Warriors went on to the two-goal win.
Moose Jaw finishes the regular season with a record of 36-27-7-2, with the Regina Pats loss to the Brandon Wheat Kings, the Warriors finish in third place in the East Division which sets up a showdown with the Prince Albert Raiders in the first round of the playoffs.
The Warriors and Raiders series opens Friday, March 25th in Prince Albert, Game 2 is Saturday, March 26th in northern Saskatchewan, the series shifts to Moose Jaw for Game’s 3 and 4 on Monday, March 28th and Tuesday, March 29th.
