Road trip starts with loss in Edmonton
The Moose Jaw Warriors could not capitalize after a strong first period, while Edmonton scored four goals in the second and went on to win 5-0 Friday at Rogers Place in northern Alberta.
Throughout the first period, the Warriors did a good job coming up the ice and going on the attack and developing quality looks at the Edmonton net. They also did a good job fighting off the wall and moving the puck inside for shots on goalie Sebastian Cossa.
On the other side the ice, Edmonton outshot the Warriors 15-7 but the Warriors made them fight for their shots as they did a good job collapsing on their goaltender to take away second opportunities which led to a scoreless opening period.
Edmonton put the Warriors on their heels in the second period, they outshot Moose Jaw 15-3 in the frame and picked up four goals.
At 3:48, Brendan Kuny scored on a loose puck beside the Moose Jaw net, then just over two minutes later, Carter Souch scored a power-play goal to increase their lead.
The Oil Kings get coming, at 10:09 Riley Sawchuk scored to make it 3-0, and then just shy of three minutes later, Scott Atkinson was going through the Moose Jaw crease and deflected the puck over the goal line to make it 4-0.
Edmonton put 19 more shots in the third period and added one more goal and went on to beat the Warriors 5-0.
Adam Evanoff allowed four goals on 30 shots in 40 minutes, Jackson Berry allowed one goal on 19 shots in the third period, and Sebastian Cossa made 14 saves for the shutout.
Moose Jaw was 0-for-3 on the power-play in the first period and 0-for-5 in the game while the Oil Kings were 1-for-3 on the man advantage.
