King Joins Hockey Operations Staff
Moose Jaw Warriors General Manager Alan Millar has announced the hiring of Scott King to the club’s newly created position of Assistant Coach/Coordinator, Player Development.
“Scott is a good young hockey guy who brings a unique skill set to our Hockey Operations staff,” commented Warriors General Manager Alan Millar. “His experiences as a player and as a coach will benefit both our team and our prospects.”
Originally from Saskatoon, King played one season with Boston University (NCAA) in 1995-1996, and then went on to join the Kelowna Rockets in 1996-1997. In 68 games with the Rockets he had 40 goals and 97 points and was named the Rockets Rookie of the Year. In 1997 King signed as a free agent with the Montreal Canadiens and went on to play four years in the American Hockey League and East Coast Hockey League from 1997 to 2001. During this time he would be named an AHL All-Star, was voted an ECHL MVP, and was an ECHL scoring champion.
King would then go on to play 14 years in Germany from 2001 to 2015 where he was a five time All-Star and is sixth all-time in scoring. He was also selected five times to play for Canada at the Deutschland Cup and was a part of championship teams in 2005 and 2008.
Last season King served as the Warriors Skills Coach, he also was Hockey Canada’s Head Skills Development Coach in 2015-2016. Before returning to Canada, King was a Skills Development Instructor in Germany (2013-2015), he has also completed Hockey Canada’s Hockey University Coaching and Safety Modules and has attended international hockey programs in Sweden, Czech Republic, Switzerland, and Japan.
The Moose Jaw Warriors open their 2016 Training Camp Wednesday, August 24 at Mosaic Place, they open the 2016-2017 WHL regular season Friday, September 23rd at home against the Brandon Wheat Kings. Season tickets are available by contacting the Warriors Office at 306.694.5711.
