VALK NAMED ATB PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Medicine Hat, AB – The ATB Player of the Week for the week ending October 21, 2012 is forward Curtis Valk.
This is Valk’s first ATB Player of the Week honour of the 2012-2013 season. Over the past week, Valk collected two goals, three assists and a plus/minus rating of +1 in two games. The Tigers went 0-2-0-0 in the pair of games.
The Tigers hosted the Brandon Wheat Kings in the first game of the week. It was a high scoring affair with the Wheat Kings winning 7-6. Valk had a great start to the week scoring once and assisting on two others. The line of Valk, Elgin Pearce and Trevor Cox accounted for three of the goals while also adding four assists to their season totals. Despite the seven goals against, Valk was a +1 at the conclusion of the game.
The second and final game of the week saw the Tigers travel to Edmonton to take on the reigning WHL Champs. The Tigers got off to a great start courtesy of Valk and his linemates. Valk assisted on Trevor Cox’s goal only a minute into the game. He then followed it up with his team leading seventh goal of the season later in the period while the Tigers were on the power play. Unfortunatley for the Tigers, the Oil Kings would end up scoring four consecutive goals to win 4-2.
At the end of the week, Valk lead the team in scoring with 15 points (7G, 8A) and goals (7).
