TIGERS SHUTOUT REBELS
The Tigers opened the second half of the season against the Rebels in Red Deer. The Tigers have been enjoyed success against the Rebels having won the previous two meetings this season and having gone 22-2-0-2 over the past 5 years in the regular season. Red Deer has also been struggling as of lately having won only 2 of their last 16 games. Despite being on home ice the Rebels struggles would continue as the Tigers shut them out 2-0 on Tuesday night.
The Tigers power play unit did all the damage in this game. Matthew Konan opened the scoring on the power play late in the second period with a blast from the point. The goal was his 6th of the season and surpassed his previous career high of 5 goals in a season. Patrik Parkkonen made it a 2-0 game at the midway point of the third period. Parkkonen pinched into the offensive zone and took the cross ice feed from Curtis Valk and beat Deven Dubyk short side. The goal was Parkkonen’s 3rd of the season. Tyler Bunz had a great game in net for the Tigers saving all of the Rebels’ 36 shots for his 3rd shutout and 20th win of the season. The special teams had a strong night going 2 for 6 on the power play while killing off all 5 penalties.
