TIGERS RELEASE HOLFELD
Medicine Hat, AB – The WHL 20-year-old cut down deadline took effect this afternoon with the Tigers announcing the release of goaltender Ryan Holfeld.
The native of Leroy, SK joined the Tigers as a 17-year-old during the 2006-07 WHL championship year where he was the back up to then 20-year-old Matt Keetley.
Over the three full seasons Holfeld tended net for the Tigers, he posted a 2.84 goals against average with a .90 save percentage. Holfeld appeared in 124 regular season games and 17 playoff games.
"We are certainly disappointed to loose a player of Ryan's character," stated Tigers' gm/head coach Willie Desjardins. "Ryan was our hardest working player last season and set a great example for all the young players on our team."
"However, in junior hockey, teams must develop players and that is where we found ourselves this year with our 20-year-old situation," said Desjardins. "We felt we needed to give Bunz and Dubyk the ice time to make the next step in their development and we are disappointed that Ryan is the person who was left out of the equation."
"Ryan is a great ambassador of the Tigers and will always be part of our team and our history. We wish Ryan all the best in the future and appreciate the tremendous contribution he made to our organization," concluded Desjardins.
The Tigers prepare to take on recently traded 20-year-old Colton Grant and his new team, Chilliwack Bruins, tomorrow night at The Arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
Swift Current Broncos will invade The Arena on Sunday for a 6:00 pm contest.
Both games can be heard on the Tigers Hockey Network, present by ATB Financial, on CHAT 94.5 FM. The games can also be viewed via webcast at http://livestream.whl.ca/ for a cost of $6.95.
