TIGERS PUT UP 50 SHOTS, DEFEAT P.A. 3-1
The Tigers started their week off with a two game road trip to Saskatchewan. The first challenge would be the Prince Albert Raiders on Tuesday night. The Raiders have gotten off to a great start this season and currently lead the East Division with a 9-5-1-0 record. The Tigers were well prepared for a battle though and came out gunning. They outshot the Raiders 50-22 on their way to a 3-1 victory.
Jacob Doty opened the scoring for the Tigers in the first period. He scored his third of the season at 5:15 while the Tigers were on the power play. Tommy Vannelli and Curtis Valk picked up the assists on the power play marker.
Reid Gardiner evened the score early in the second period with his eighth of the year. Sawyer Lange and Josh Morrissey picked up the helpers on the goal. The Tigers pressured hard to retake the lead and put 23 shots on net in the second period. Tyler Lewington would put the Tigers back on top before the period was out. Lewington put his second of the season top shelf. Steven Owre and Trevor Cox found the score sheet with the assists.
The goaltenders continued their solid play in the final frame. Neither team was able to find the back of the cage until the Raiders’ net was empty as they gambled with the extra skater. Curtis Valk was the beneficiary of the empty net as he collected his seventh of the season. The goal iced the game and ensured the Tigers a 3-1 victory on the road.
Marek Langhamer was impressive as he picked up his fifth win in net this season. He allowed only one goal against on 22 shots. Cole Cheveldave was in net for the Raiders. He had an excellent game between the pipes despite picking up the loss. He allowed two goals against on 49 shots.
The Tigers went 1 for 5 on the power play and were able to kill off all three Raiders’ power play opportunities.
