Tigers Promote From Within Organization
Head Coach Shaun Clouston Interview
Medicine Hat, AB – Medicine Hat Tigers’ general manager Brad McEwen announced today the promotion of Tigers’ associate coach Shaun Clouston to the head coaching position with the Western Hockey League club.
“It is in our team’s best interest to stay within our organization in terms of our head coach,” said McEwen.
“Shaun has been instrumental in working alongside Willie Desjardins for the past seven years and is the natural choice to become head coach,” added Tigers’ president/governor Darrell Maser. “
The native of Viking, AB has spent the past seven seasons in Medicine Hat as associate coach to Desjardins, whom is moving on to the NHL’s Dallas Stars.
“We feel we won’t miss a beat with Shaun taking over behind the bench and knowing our roster so very well. He knows the way we conduct ourselves and the way the Tigers go about their business. I feel this is a real good fit at this time,” stated McEwen.
“I am both grateful and excited about this opportunity to continue to coach for the Tigers and make Medicine Hat my home,” said the 42-year-old new head coach of the Tigers.
“I feel very fortunate to have spent the last seven years working with and learning from Willie. I wish him great success in Dallas,” said Clouston.
“I am proud to be part of this organization and am eager to face the challenge of carrying on the winning tradition and high standards that have been set during Wil’s time in The Hat,” stated Clouston.
During his time as Associate Coach, Clouston filled in as Head Coach during Wil Desjardins' time with Team Canada. In the role of Head Coach, Clouston had a record of 10-6-1-0 spread over two seasons.
