TIGERS GET THEIR REVENGE
WHL GAME SUMMARY – TIGERS WEBTV HILITES
Medicine Hat, AB -The Edmonton Oil Kings travelled to Medicine Hat on Saturday to take on the Tigers on the back end of a home and home series. The Oil Kings stole the extra point the night before defeating the Tigers in overtime 4-3. The Tigers were looking to turn the tables on this night having never lost to the Oil Kings on home ice.
Unlike the previous night the Tigers were able to stay out of penalty trouble early. The Tigers received the only power play of the period and they make the most of the opportunity. Wacey Hamilton banged home the rebound from the side of the net off the Thomas Carr point shot to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
The Tigers took control of the game in the second period outshooting the Oil Kings 11-6 in the frame. The Tigers played a good positional game and spent the majority of the period on the attack. The power play was clicking on this night and the unit scored their second of the game half way through the second. Emerson Etem fired home his 40th of the season off some great passing from Kellan Tochkin and Linden Vey. The Tigers continued to battle hard to maintain their 2-0 lead heading into the third.
The Oil Kings made a game of it though putting their first score on the board at the five minute mark of the third. Mark Pysyk scored his sixth of the season to reduce the Tiger lead to one. A number of the recent Tigers games have gone to overtime and shootout but they were determined to finish this one in regulation. Tyler Bunz had a great game and his defense really clamped down in the final minutes of the game to eliminate the Oil Kings’ scoring chances. As a last ditch effort the Oil Kings pulled their goalie and went with the extra skater. Emerson Etem was able to score his second of the night into the gapping net to seal the 3-1 win for the hometown heroes.
Goaltender Tyler Bunz (32-12-4-4) played excellent saving 28 of the 29 shots he faced for the win.
