TIGERS 2014 BANTAM DRAFT RESULTS
Medicine Hat, AB – The Western Hockey League Annual Bantam Draft is taking place today at the Deerfoot Inn and Casino in Calgary, AB.
The Medicine Hat Tigers had the 17th overall pick this morning and are proud to select, forward James Hamblin from Edmonton, Alberta.
Hamblin, 5’ 8”, 135 lbs. played for South Side Athletic club during the 2013-14 season collecting 32 goals and 30 assists for 62 points in 31 games. James was the captain for the Alberta North team during this year’s Alberta Cup.
“James thinks the game like a Junior player and has been highly recommended by many scouts around the league, it was a no brainer to take James for our organization” stated Tigers’ assistant general manager/head scout Brad McEwen.
“He has real good skill, competes hard and has tremendous passion for the game. James is a proven leader, being captain during the Alberta Cup says a lot about his character. James is an exciting player whose overall package leads us to believe he can be a top end forward for our club over many years” said McEwen.
The Tigers selected 9 players: 5 forwards, 3 defenseman and 1 goalie out of the available 1999 born players.
Tigers scouting staff also went for size in this year’s draft. Out of the 9 draft picks, 7 players are over 5’10” tall at the age of 14 or 15. The players selected in this year’s draft will now have the opportunity to develop into WHL players over the next few years and Tigers fans could see these names in the black and orange very soon.
