Rebels Down Tigers in Shootout
Red Deer, AB – The Red Deer Rebels defeated the Medicine Hat Tigers 5-4 in a shootout on Saturday night at the Enmax Centrium.
Down 2-0, the Tigers managed to battle back to take a 4-3 lead before the Rebels evened the score to send the game to overtime. When overtime solved nothing, a 12 round shootout was eventually won by the Rebels as Cody Esposito beat Tigers netminder Ryan Holfeld.
With the Tigers trailing 3-1, defenceman Mark Isherwood scored twice on the power play and added a power play assist to help the Tigers to a one goal lead late in the third period. Tigers forward Linden Vey scored the loan second period goal for Medicine Hat.
Brennan Bosch also scored for the Tigers, who went 4 for 7 on the power play.
Goaltender Ryan Holfeld, starting his second straight game in as many nights, recorded 34 saves and 8 more in the shootout.
The Tigers, who held the Rebels scoreless on eight power plays, were outshot by the Rebels 39-32.
