OIL KINGS SHUTOUT TIGERS
The Tigers finished off the weekend with a visit from the defending WHL Champion Edmonton Oil Kings. The Tigers have had a wild weekend that has seen them score 15 goals over two games (1-1-0-0) including the 10-3 blowout of the rival Lethbridge Hurricanes the previous night. Edmonton had a successful weekend having won against Lethbridge at home on Friday and in Saskatoon on Saturday. The Tigers were hoping to keep their high powered offense going but they ran into a staunch defense and hot goaltender on Sunday night. The Tigers were held scoreless as the Oil Kings won 3-0 to cap off their perfect weekend.
Curtis Lazar was the star for the Oil Kings in this game as he scored all three of their goals. He scored one in each period and each in a different way. His goal in the first period came only 32 seconds into the game and was an even strength goal from Mitchell Moroz. His second period goal was again early in the period but this time came with the man advantage. Cody Corbett and Henrik Samuelsson picked up the assists on the goal. Lazar’s hat trick goal came in the final two minutes into the empty net as the Tigers went with the extra skater. Samuelsson picked up his second assist of the game on Lazar’s 19th of the season.
Cam Lanigan played great in net despite picking up the loss. He made 31 saves on the 33 shots he faced. Laurent Brossoit picked up his 19th win and second shutout of the season making 28 saves.
The Tigers went 0 for 7 on the power play, while killing off 3 of 4 Oil Kings’ power play opportunities.
