GAME 28: TIGERS VS EDMONTON OIL KINGS

VS EDMONTON: This is the third of six meetings this season between the Tigers and Oil Kings. So far this season the Tigers have lost both of the previous meetings (0-1-0-0 at home and 0-1-0-0 in Edmonton) against the Oil Kings. Curtis Valk (1G, 2A) leads the Tigers with three points in the previous games. Cam Lanigan (0-1-0-0) and Marek Langhamer (0-1-0-0) have split the games in net for the Tigers. Langhamer got the start in the first game and allowed four goals (4.17 GAA) on 21 shots (.810 Save %). Lanigan started the last game and allowed three goals (3.01 GAA) on 34 shots (.912 Save %). On the power play the Tigers went 2 for 14 (14.3%), while killing off 5 of 7 Oil Kings’ opportunities (71.4%).

MILESTONES: Curtis Valk has already hit a major milestone this season and he has another in his sights. Valk recorded his 100th career point in the WHL earlier this season and is only two goals away from 50 in his career. In 153 career games, Valk has recorded 48 goals and 61 assists for 109 points. Dylan Busenius also recently hit a pair of career milestones. Busenius played in his 200th game as a Tiger and also recorded his 50th career assist. Dylan Bredo is also closing in on the 50 assist plateau. He currently has 48 assists in 224 career games.

 

STREAKS: Curtis Valk’s 15 game point streak came to an end against Red Deer on Tuesday. Over the streak he had scored 11 goals and added 18 assists for 29 points. Despite the end of his point streak, Valk extended his impressive streak of a positive +/- rating to 18 games. Linemate Elgin Pearce was also riding the same impressive +/- streak but it came to an end in Calgary on Friday night. Pearce continued his scoring ways though scoring a goal in the loss. The goal gave him points in 15 of his last 20 games. Hunter Shinkaruk has also been playing great hockey lately. He’s scored in 8 of the last 10 games (11 goals) and added 10 assists as well.

 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Curtis Valk was named the ATB Tiger of the Week for the week ending November 18. It was his third player of the week honour of the season. Valk led the team with three points (1G, 2A) and a +1 rating in the three games.

 

MOVEMBER: The Tigers have been busy raising money for prostate cancer through Movember. They hope to raise $15,000 for the great cause. If they are able to reach this goal six players have agreed to shave their heads in addition to their moustaches at the end of the month. To date they have raised $13,357.
