Former Tabbie Chris Stevens Maintains Winning Ways
Last month, the host Fort St. John Flyers won the Allan Cup, Canada's senior hockey championship, for the first time in the history of their franchise, and they had the help of a former Tiger in the process. Chris Stevens, who wore #36 for the Tabbies during his time here, scored the winning goal in the championship game as the Flyers defeated the Bentley Generals 4-1.
Stevens was instrumental in the success of the Flyers, much as he was with the Tigers when they went on to capture the 2007 WHL Championship. Fort. St. John was undefeated throughout the tournament, beating Bentley 7-1 and the Clarenville Caribous 6-3 during round-robin play, and knocking off the South East Prairie Thunder, 7-3 in Friday's semifinal.
Ryan Carter and Rod Stevens also scored for the Flyers.
Scott Hood had the lone goal for Bentley, who reached their third consecutive national championship game and were looking to become the first team since the 1993-95 Warroad Lakers from Minnesota to win back-to-back Allan Cups.
The Allan Cup is one of the oldest club-team hockey competitions in North America having been first competed for in 1908. As previously mentioned, this is Fort St. John's first claim to the trophy, which has now been awarded 102 times.
