COX NAMED CHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Trevor Cox of the Medicine Hat Tigers is the CHL Player of the Week for the two-week period ending December 28 after recording 13 points in three games including three goals and 10 assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-6.
Cox collected three straight multi-point games for the Tigers who lead the WHL’s Central Division with 52 points. The WHL’s top scorer finished off the first half of the season with a five-point performance on December 17 with a goal and four assists as second star of a 7-3 victory over the Kamloops Blazers. After returning from the holiday break, Cox picked up two assists in a 6-5 loss to the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday, then produced a career-high six points with two goals and four assists on Sunday as second star of an 8-4 victory over the Hurricanes.
Cox, a 19-year-old from Surrey, BC, is playing in his fourth WHL season with the Tigers. So far this season, Cox has 14 goals and a league-high 48 assists for 62 points in 36 games played after recording 82 points in 70 games last season.
Also considered for the award this week was Cameron Askew of the Moncton Wildcats with one goal and seven assists for eight points in two games, and Chris Bigras of the Owen Sound Attack with two goals and five assists for seven points in two games.
