BACK TO BACK SHUTOUT VICTORIES
The Tigers finished off the weekend hosting the Red Deer Rebels. The Tigers had defeated the Oil Kings 2-1 on Friday night in Edmonton, shutout the Calgary Hitmen 4-0 on Saturday night at the Arena and were looking to finish off the perfect weekend with another win at home. The Tigers continued to fire on all cylinders as they posted another shutout victory defeating the Rebels by a score of 3-0.
It took a while but Hunter Shinkaruk broke open the scoreless tie midway through the second period. The goal was Shinkaruk’s 26th of the season and tied him for the team lead with Curtis Valk. Elgin Pearce and Tyler Lewington picked up the assists on the goal.
Curtis Valk would retake the team lead for goals early in the third period with his 27th of the season. Logan McVeigh and Boston Leier both picked up the assists on the goal. The line of Valk, Leier and McVeigh would strike again later in the third period to make it a 3-0 game. McVeigh scored his 13th of the season and fourth since joining the Tigers. Valk and Leier would pick up the assists to give them each two points on the night.
Cam Lanigan was superb in net for the Tigers. He made 26 saves to win his 16th game and record his third shutout of the season. Patrik Bartosak was busy in the Rebels net making 36 saves in the loss.
On the power play the Tigers went 0 for 5, while killing off all three Rebel power play opportunities.
