TIGERS WRAP UP SEASON SERIES WITH BRONCOS
For eighth and final time this season the Medicine Hat Tigers and the Swift Current Broncos would do battle, with tonight’s affair being held at Co-op Place after a Swift Current win on home ice last night. Garin Bjorklund got the nod for his 44th appearance, while at the other end of the ice the Broncos would go with Isaac Poulter, who has posted a .952 sv% vs the Tigers this season.
Saturday was also Rock your Socks night at Co-op Place in support of World Down Syndrome Day which takes place on Monday, March 21st. Both the Medicine Hat Tigers and Swift Current Broncos wore different colour socks in an effort to spark conversations about diversity, equality and inclusion.
The Tigers were looking to get off to a quick start, registering four shots on net in the opening minutes, but it would be the Broncos would capitalize early when Broncos leading scorer Mathew Ward chips the puck out in front to a wide open Josh Filmon who has a tap in to give the Broncos the early one goal lead.
Medicine Hat would press throughout the period, but they were unable to find a way past Poulter. Shots through 20 minutes, Swift Current 16, Medicine Hat 10.
The second period would bring nothing but penalties as the Tigers took four minor penalties in the first half of the period, nothing would come of it though as Tigers netminder Garin Bjorklund stands tall to keep the Tigers within striking distance.
Connor Hvidston would put the Broncos up by a pair just over four minutes into the third period, with the assists going to Josh Davies and Karson King.
That would do it for scoring from Co-op Place on Saturday night as Isaac Poulter and the Swift Current Broncos come away with the 2-0 shutout win.
The Tigers next action comes next Friday, March 25th when the team travels to Red Deer for their final match-up of the season vs the Rebels. The next home date for the Tigers is Saturday, March 26th when they’ll play host to the Calgary Hitmen. Puck drop is set for 7pm and you can get your tickets online at the Co-op Place Box Office or tixx.ca
