TIGERS TRAVEL TO SWIFT CURRENT
The Tigers travelled to Swift Current for the final time this season for the seventh of eight meetings between these two rivals. Tigers workhorse Garin Bjorklund got the start for the Orange and Black while Reid Dyck got the nod for the Broncos.
Garin Bjorklund was called upon again to come up big and the netminder delivered. Time and time again shutting the door on the Broncos and keeping the game tied through the first six minutes.
The Broncos would find the chink in the Bjorklund’s armour as Josh Filmon broke into the Tigers zone and ripped a shot passed the Tigers keeper from the top of the circle. For Filmon that was his 21st of the campaign.
That’s all the scoring the first period would see as the Tigers outshot the Broncos 15-8 but trailed on the scoreboard 1-0.
Swift Current began the second period on the powerplay and made no mistake after some nice puck movement. Raphael Pelletier let go a bomb on the one timer from the left circle to put the Broncos up by two.
Swift stretched the lead to three when Sam McGinley got his fifth of the year as get gained control of the loose puck behind the net and put the wrap around passed an outstretched Bjorklund.
Andrew Basha gets the Tigers on the board 9:46 into the middle frame when he put the puck under the glove of Dyck on the powerplay. Teague Patton and Oasiz Wiesblatt get the assists on Basha’s third goal of the season.
McGinley restored the Broncos three goal lead after he took the back door feed and is able to slide his second of the game behind Bjorklund to make it 4-1 for the Broncos.
Connor Hvidston pushed the lead to four when he was able to put home the Karson King feed with just over five minutes to go in the third period.
Tigers outshoot the Broncos 31-30 but that’s the way it would end, make the final 5-1 Broncos.
The Tigers next action comes tomorrow night when they play the second half of this home and home series with the Swift Current Broncos.
