TIGERS CONCLUDE SERIES WITH CANES
Medicine Hat, AB — The Medicine Hat Tigers paid tribute to an icon on Saturday night at Co-op Place, honouring the legendary voice of the Tigers, Bob Ridley. Last year Ridley called his 4000th game for the Orange and Black, but because of the global pandemic, the celebration had to be put on hold until now. Garin Bjorklund got the start for the Tigers, the 47th start of the season for the Grande Prairie, AB native. Brayden Peters got the tap for Lethbridge.
The Hurricanes did their best to spoil the party early as Tyson Laventure put the ‘Canes up by one 6:32 into the opening frame. That’s all the scoring the first period would see. Shots after 12-10 in favour of Lethbridge.
The Hurricanes continued their pressure in the middle stanza when Alex Thacker found a wide open Chase Pauls to make it 2-0. Just over five minutes later Jett Jones pushed the lead to three after a Justin Hall faceoff win, Jones scooched in front of the net and ripped the puck low, under the blocker of Tigers netminder Garin Bjorklund to make it a 3-0 Hurricanes lead.
Hurricanes kept the momentum going in third period when Yegor Klavdiev was finally able to solve Garin Bjorklund for his 18th goal of the season. Alex Thacker would find Justin Hall on a stretch pass only 2:00 minutes later and the ‘Canes leading scorer made no mistake, beating Bjorklund to make it 6-0.
The Tigers would spoil Bryan Thomson’s shutout bid with only 2.3 seconds left when Ashton Ferster got some lumber on a Logan Barlage point shot. Brayden Boehm was credited with the secondary assist. Make the final 6-1 in favour of Lethbridge.
The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday when the Swift Current Broncos come to town. You can get your tickets online at Tixx.ca or from the Co-op Place Box Office.
