Raiders steal extra point in shootout win over the Tigers
Medicine Hat, AB – A goaltenders duel and tight checking affair would the Medicine Hat Tigers fall to the Prince Albert Raiders, 2-1 in a shootout Friday night at Co-op Place.
The Tigers would take little time to get things going on the scoresheet as Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) would find a loose puck in the Raiders crease and put in his 24th of the season to make it 1-0 Medicine Hat. Hayden Harsanyi (Calgary, AB) & Reid Andresen (Saskatoon, SK) would draw assists. Both teams would go 0/1 on the power play and the tabbies would keep that 1-0 lead into the second period.
A quiet second period sees the Raiders find the game tying goal at 3:33 on a clearing attempt by the Tigers would see Oli Chenier would notch his 11th of the season to tie the game at 1-1. That score would stand heading to the third period.
Both teams would trade blows but none would be able to solve Max Hildebrand or Zach Zahara (Rockyview, AB) and would see both teams pick-up a single point. But overtime would solve nothing and a shootout would be needed.
Aidan Oiring & Sloan Stanick would score for the Raiders, while Gavin McKenna (Whitehorse, YT) would score for the Tigers and the Raiders would come away with the 2-1 victory.
With the single point, the Tigers are now 32-17-3-2 on the campaign and now five points clear of Red Deer in the Central Division standings.
Next up for the Tigers, the second half of their two-game homestand with the top team in the WHL & CHL, the Saskatoon Blades at Co-op Place Saturday night.
