GAMEDAY PREVIEW – MAR 11 vs RED DEER
VS RED DEER: This is the sixth of eight meetings between the Rebels and the Tigers this season, with the Tigers holding the edge in the season series with a 3-2-0-0 record vs Red Deer. The last time these two clubs met, the Rebels came away 11-1 winners in Medicine Hat. The Rebels currently have a record of 36-16-2-1 which is good enough for 75 points. They currently sit 2nd in the Central Division and 3rd in the Eastern Conference. Red Deer is looking to bounce back from a 5-2 loss to the Saskatoon Blades on Wednesday. Arshdeep Bains leads the Rebels in scoring with 30 goals and 52 assists. Bains is currently tied for 1st in the WHL scoring race with Saskatoon’s Kyle Crnkovic.

LAST GAME: Oren Shtrom turned in a multi-goal effort, notching his eight and ninth goals of the season, and Logan Barlage was able to get back into the goal column scoring his 13th of the campaign. Medicine Hat played host to the #1 ranked team in the country in the Edmonton Oil Kings on Wednesday and were able to go toe-to-toe with the heavyweights until late in the 2nd period when the Oil Kings started pulling away. Justin Sourdif and Josh Williams each had a pair as the Tigers fell to the Oil Kings by a score of 7-3. Garin Bjorklund stopped 32 of 39 shots sent his direction. Tyler MacKenzie was also able to add his first point since returning from injury as he assisted on Shtrom’s second marker.
MILESTONES: Tigers Forward Logan Barlage notched his 100th career WHL assist against his former team, the Lethbridge Hurricanes on February 26th in Lethbridge, and forward Carter Chorney played in his 200th career WHL Game on the same evening. Captain Daniel Baker played in his 200th career WHL game on January 21st in Saskatoon. Owen MacNeil appeared in his 100th career WHL game vs the Prince Albert Raiders the following night. Rhett Parsons, Oren Shtrom, Oasiz Wiesblatt, Tyler MacKenzie, Pavel Bocharov, Teague Patton and Brayden Boehm, Ashton Ferster and Reid Andresen have each recently played in their 50th career games.
PLAYER TO WATCH: Oren Shtrom is in his second season with the Tigers after being drafted by the team in the 3rd round of the 2019 WHL Prospect Draft. The Gilbert, AZ product is a highly skilled forward that has great touch and vision around the net. In 68 career games for the Orange and Black, Shtrom has 14 goals and 18 assists, including a career high nine goals and nine assists this season. Shtrom’s ability to think the game at a high level in all three zones helps create space and offensive chances for himself and teammates.
