RECAP / Power Trips
KENT, Wash. – Riley Sutter’s third period goal forced overtime for the second straight game but the Everett Silvertips settled for a 3-2 shootout defeat to the Seattle Thunderbirds at ShoWare Center on Friday.
Sutter and Lucas Skrumeda buried power play goals for Everett, while goaltender Lasse Petersen turned in a 21 save effort, countered by Carl Stankowski’s 29 saves.
Sami Moilanen’s first of two goals put Seattle ahead, 1-0 at 2:08 of the first period on a quick set-up by Elijah Brown, capitalizing on a defensive zone turnover.
The Silvertips power play, accounting for both of their goals, turned a 1-1 tie on Skrumeda’s five-on-three marker, set up at center point from Patrick Bajkov and Matt Fonteyne at the 3:30 mark of the second period. Moilanen restored the Thunderbirds lead at 2-1 at 15:52 on a rebound power play goal.
Everett’s man advantage was handed another opportunity in the third period and Sutter cashed in, stationed at the left point. He took a relay from Skrumeda and Devon Skoleski and hammered a one-timer through traffic, eluding Stankowski’s five hole at 8:26 for a 2-2 tie.
The Silvertips earned a golden opportunity to win it in overtime at four-on-three, but fell short while Stankowski stopped all three Silvertips shooters in the shootout. Alexander True put Seattle on the board in the second round, and Stankowski foiled Brett Kemp’s forehand bid to close the game.
