Royals fall to the Tri-City Americans
Victoria, BC. — The Victoria Royals hit the ice at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre tonight to host the Tri-City Americans in the opening matchup of a weekend back-to-back series. A hard-fought battle saw the Royals record their highest-shooting game of the season so far, but they were unable to come out on top, falling 4-1 at home.
Tri-City opened the scoring with a goal from Crew Martinson around the 11-minute mark of the first period. They extended their lead with a goal from Carter Kingerski just under 2 minutes later, and despite outshooting the Americans 9-6 through the first 20 minutes, the Royals trailed 2-0 headed into the first intermission.
After tallying a season-high 20 shots in the second period, the Royals got on the board with a goal from Heath Nelson in the final minutes of the frame, assisted by Ashton Brown, to bring the score to 2-1 after 40 minutes of play.
The third period saw the Americans regain their two-goal lead with a goal from Crew Martinson at 15:03. Despite the Royals sending out the extra attacker in the final minutes of the game, Connor Dale scored on the empty net and the Royals fell with a final score of 4-1.
