Royals win 5-1 over the Americans at home
Victoria, BC. — The Victoria Royals returned to the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre for a matinee clash with the Tri-City Americans to close out their weekend back-to-back series. After falling 4-1 to the Americans yesterday afternoon, the Royals responded with a dominant 5-1 victory led by a three-point performance from Hayden Moore.
Jacob Schwartz opened the scoring with his second goal of the season, assisted by Landon Young and Nolan Stewart, at 11:05 of the first period. After nearly nine minutes of non-stop play to cap off the frame, the Royals held the 1-0 lead headed into the first intermission.
The Americans got on the board with the equalizer goal from Savin Virk around the four-minute mark of the second period. Just over three minutes later, the Royals regained their one-goal advantage with a marker from Hayden Moore, assisted by Roan Woodward and Caleb Matthews, and the Royals led 2-1 after 40 minutes of play.
Roan Woodward extended the Royals’ lead just under three minutes into the third period, with assists from Hayden Moore and Caleb Matthews. Hayden Moore earned his second goal of the night, assisted by Timofei Runtso and Ludovic Perreault, on a power play at 13:19 of the third period. Shortly after, Heath Nelson notched his second goal in two games, assisted by Reggie Newman, and the Royals held the Americans off for the remainder of the game to earn the 5-1 win.
