Raiders select defenceman Brock Cripps with second overall pick in 2024 WHL Prospects Draft Presented by Windsor Plywood Prince Albert
After a dominant season in the CSSHL U15 Prep Division, Brock Cripps is the newest member of the Prince Albert Raiders. The defenceman from Victoria, BC was taken second overall in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft Presented by Windsor Plywood Prince Albert.
Playing his second season in the U15 Prep Division with St. George School, Cripps was a force to be reckoned with on the blue line. He led the entire league in scoring with 70 points (25G-45A) in just 26 regular season games. The next highest scoring defenceman in the league totaled 36 points. Cripps was a powerplay quarterback as well, scoring five powerplay goals and adding 12 assists on the man advantage, making his 17 points a tie for the league high.
“He’s got ice cold veins,” Director of Player Personnel Bruno Zarrillo said about Cripps. “Nothing rattles this kid, he’s fearless. He can play in any situation and never feels that he’s in any situation he can’t achieve.”
Led by Cripps, St. George made it all the way to the U15 Prep Western Semi-Final, where they fell to NAX.
After his incredible season on the ice, Cripps was recognized with numerous CSSHL awards. He was named Most Valuable Player, Most Valuable Defenceman, and he also won awards for having the most assists, most points by a defenceman, and most points among any player. To cap it all off, he was also named to the First All-Star Team.
“He’s a dynamic player,” Zarrillo added. “He’s offensive, and he brings superstar power from the back end.”
