GAME PREVIEW: The Raiders (2-6-1-2) host the Everett Silvertips (3-5-1-2) in a rematch of last spring’s WHL Championship Series. In their last outing, the Raiders fell 5-4 in overtime to the Wheat Kings in Brandon. Alisher Sarkenov led the way with two goals and an assist. Brandon Gorzynski added a goal and an assist, while Malaki Martin scored the other Raiders’ goal. Brock Cripps and Eli Molde each had two assists in the loss. The Silvertips opened their East Division road trip on Wednesday with a 3-2 shootout loss to the Blades in Saskatoon.
THE MATCH-UP: Tonight is the lone regular season game between the Raiders and the Silvertips. During the Raiders’ American road trip last year, the Green and Gold skated to a 4-1 win over the Silvertips in Everett behind a two-goal game from Evan Smith. In May, the Raiders lost the WHL Championship Series four games to one against the Everett Silvertips.
FILLING THE NET: Alisher Sarkenov’s two goals on Sunday afternoon increased his total to six on the season, which leads the team. The import forward from Kazakhstan has goals in three of his last five games and points in three straight contests. The three-game point streak is tied for the longest in Sarkenov’s WHL career. Sarkenov, listed at 5’11 and 185 lbs, is third in team scoring with nine points in 11 games.
HEATING UP: For the third consecutive game, Brock Cripps had a multi-point performance. The 2027 NHL Draft-eligible defenceman had two assists in Sunday’s game against the Wheat Kings. Over the three-game stretch, the Victoria, BC product has six points (1g-5a). This three-game stretch is the longest streak of multi-point games in his WHL career so far.
STILL STREAKING: With a goal and an assist on Sunday against the Wheat Kings, Brandon Gorzynski extended his point streak to four games. The Dallas Stars prospect has two goals and three assists over that span, increasing his point total to six in nine games so far this season.
GRAB THAT PUCK: Malaki Martin’s beautiful backhand goal on Sunday in Brandon was his first in the WHL. Martin, a Regina, SK product, is in his first full season with the Raiders and has played in seven games so far. The 6’1, 203-lb forward is coming off an impressive offensive season last year with the Regina Pat Canadians, posting 37 goals and 41 assists in 44 games.
UP NEXT: The Raiders head to Swift Current on Saturday night to take on the Broncos at the InnovationPlex. Game time is 6 p.m. Listen on 900 CKBI or watch on the WHL’s YouTube channel. The Raiders are back at home on Wednesday night when the Brandon Wheat Kings make their first trip to Prince Albert this season.
