Three Oil Kings to compete at 2022 World Junior Championship
Edmonton, AB – Three members of the Edmonton Oil Kings will be taking part in the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship in Edmonton from August 9-20.
G Sebastian Cossa – Team Canada
Goaltender Sebastian Cossa will once again be representing Canada after previously doing so at the abbreviated World Junior Championship this past winter.
Cossa, a Fort McMurray, AB native, is coming off his third season with the Oil Kings in which he posted a record of 33-9-2-1 with a 2.28 goals against average, .913 save percentage and six shutouts.
During the 2022 WHL Playoffs the Detroit Red Wings prospect went 16-3 with a 1.93 goals against average, .919 save percentage and five shutouts, helping lead the Oil Kings to their third Ed Chynoweth Cup in modern franchise history.
F Jakub Demek – Team Slovakia
Forward Jakub Demek will once again be representing Slovakia after previously doing so at the abbreviated World Junior Championship this past winter.
Demek, a Kosice, Slovakia product and Vegas Golden Knights prospect, is coming off his first season in the WHL and finished in the Top 20 in rookie scoring after putting up 54 points (20G, 34A), 39 penalty minutes and a +18 plus/minus rating in 55 games while adding 17 points (5G, 12A) in 19 playoff games during the Oil Kings Championship run.
F Luca Hauf – Team Germany
Forward Luca Hauf was named to the German national team this past weekend following a week-long training camp in Füssen, Germany.
Hauf, a Krefeld, Germany native, was selected by the Oil Kings in the first round, 59th overall, in the 2022 CHL Import Draft last month and signed his WHL Standard Player Agreement on July 26.
He spent the majority of the 2021-22 season playing with the U23 Krefelder EV 1981 team in the German third division league where he put up 32 points (11G, 21A) in 25 games.
Hauf also played in 12 games last year with the Krefeld Pinguine in the top German professional league, the DEL and four games with Löwen Frankfurt in the DEL2 where he registered three assists.
