Gavin Hodnett made his season debut for the Oil Kings and wasted no time asserting himself in the lineup finding himself on two breakaways on his first two shifts of the game but was unable to solve Raiders netminder Max Hildebrand on either.
Hodnett did etch his name on the scoresheet a short time later though as he setup the game’s opening goal by Adam Jecho after finding him with a perfectly placed pass in the left-circle that he pounded into the back of the net on an Edmonton power play. The goal was Jecho’s fifth in his last four games.
Before the period was out, the Raiders were able to level the score after Aiden Oiring intercepted an errant defensive zone pass by the Oil Kings and elevated a shot under the cross-bar on a breakaway.
In the second period, the Oil Kings would badly outshoot the Raiders, taking a 27-12 lead on the shot clock to the second intermission, but it would be the visitors finding the only goal of the period.
Halfway through the middle stanza, Matej Kubiesa was able to skate on to a loose puck at center ice, speed into the Edmonton zone on a partial break and snap a shot over the left pad of Kolby Hay.
In the third period, the Raiders were able to clog things up on the Oil Kings and would get a pair of late goals from Carter Anderson and Ryder Ritchie to skate away with a 4-1 win.
