Oil Kings sign Joshua Lee to WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement
May 19, 2023 (Edmonton, AB) – The Edmonton Oil Kings have signed 2008-born defenceman Joshua Lee to a Western Hockey League Scholarship and Development Agreement, the team announced today.
Lee was selected by the Oil Kings in the third round, 45th-overall, at the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft, earlier this month.
“We are very excited to have Joshua and his family join the Oil Kings organization,” said Oil Kings Director of Scouting Michael Chan. “We are grateful for the trust his parents, Jennifer and Michael, have shown in us to further his development through our system.”
The North Vancouver, BC product played this past season with the U15 Prep Delta Hockey Academy Green where he tallied 27 points (4G, 23A) in 28 games and added three points (1G, 2A) in three post-season games.
“What excited us about Joshua is that he is a highly intelligent, puck-moving defenceman who can get around the ice with ease,” added Chan. “Through his ability to transport the puck with his feet or by making a strong first-pass, he is able contribute effectively at both ends of the ice while also being a calming presence in the defensive zone with his sound positional awareness. In addition, he has an unrelenting compete-level and drive for team success.”
The 5-foot-6, 120-pound defenceman helped the Delta Hockey Academy win the 2022 U15 CSSHL Championship the season before.
Lee is the fourth player from the Oil Kings 2023 WHL Prospects and U.S. Priority Draft class to sign a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement joining D Noa Ta’amu, F Joe Iginla and G Parker Snell.
