For a second straight game, ICE forward Mikey Milne opened the scoring as 10:08 into the game he tipped in a Benjamin Zloty point shot off an offensive zone win.
But also for a second straight game, the Oil Kings were able to tie the game before the first intermission as on a late power play, Logan Dowhaniuk found the back of the net for the second time in as many game after getting a quick wrist shot off from the point, after taking a pass from Carter Souch, that found its way through traffic and over the glove of Winnipeg goaltender Gage Alexander.
In the second period, both teams had their chances to take the lead but neither goalie would budge.
The ICE’s best chance came on an early power play after Zachary Benson found Jack Finley open on the backdoor, but he was denied by Sebastian Cossa who quickly pushed across to make the initial save, Owen Pederson followed it up with a quick shot on the rebound that Cossa also had the answer for.
Souch appeared to give Edmonton the lead later in the period on a power play after he sliced through the Winnipeg defence and stuffed the puck on goal, but as he did so, he went tumbling into Alexander, who had made the save on the shot, taking him and the puck over the goal line but immediately the officials waved off the would-be go-ahead marker.
In the third period, the ICE would be given an early five-minute power play and they capitalized twice on it to pull ahead for good on the night.
Pederson made it 2-1 after firing home a rebound in front of the Edmonton net off a blocked point shot and then moments later Milne cashed in on a breakaway to increase the Oil Kings deficit to two.
Milne completed his hat-trick into an empty-net late in the period, while Max Streule also found the back of the net in the closing moments.
Cossa finished the night making 17 saves in the loss, while Alexander turned away 34 pucks for the win. The Oil Kings went 1-for-4 on the power play, the ICE were 2-for-5.
