GAME SUMMARY: Oil Kings blanked in Calgary
Calgary, AB – The Edmonton Oil Kings fell 5-0 in Calgary against the Hitmen on Sunday afternoon in their final game before the Holiday break.
The Oil Kings and Hitmen played a scoreless first period with Calgary outshooting Edmonton 19-7.
Kolby Hay barred the door for the Oil Kings making several key saves, specifically on a late period power play for the Hitmen.
Despite just the seven shots, the Oil Kings weren’t without their chances to open the scoring as Brayden Peters came up with a trio of big saves off Tom Cadieux, Noah Boyko and Luke Robson in the opening 20 minutes.
In the second period, the Hitmen wasted little time breaking the scoreless deadlock as just 20 seconds in, Grayden Siepmann found Riley Fiddler-Schultz with a long stretch-pass at the Edmonton blueline and he broke in on a partial break snapping a perfectly placed shot over the left shoulder of Hay.
At the 6:48 mark of the second period, the Hitmen extended their lead after Oliver Tulk was sprung for a quick developing breakaway and tucked a shot five-hole to make it a 2-0 Calgary lead.
Less than two minutes later, the Hitmen made it a three-goal difference after Sean Tschigerl split through the Edmonton defence and fired a shot just over the left pad of Hay from the left-wing circle.
In the third period, the Hitmen added on a couple more goals with Keagan Slaney and Tomis Marinkovic both tallying late in the final frame.
Hay finished the afternoon making 44 saves, while Peters turned in 20 saves for his second shutout of the season. The Oil Kings went 0-for-7 on the power play, the Hitmen were 0-for-3.
