GAME SUMMARY: Oil Kings bitten by Tigers
Medicine Hat, AB – The Edmonton Oil Kings dropped a 5-2 decision to the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday night at Co-Op Place.
In the first period, the Tigers jumped all over the Oil Kings scoring four times to take a 4-0 lead into the first intermission.
Brendan Lee opened the scoring at the 9:40 mark after sliding in a backdoor pass from Tyler MacKenzie.
Just 3:24 later, MacKenzie found the back of the net himself firing home a wrist shot from the high-slot of the Edmonton zone while the Tigers were shorthanded.
With just under two minutes left in the frame, Tomas Mrsic was able to finish off a cross-ice feed from Hunter St. Martin at the side of the Edmonton net to make it 3-0 and then less than a minute later Lee put in his second of the period by roofing a pass in front of the Edmonton net from MacKenzie.
In the second period, the Tigers were able to tack on another goal with Cayden Lidstrom hoisting a puck top-shelf on a broken 2-on-1 rush into the Edmonton zone at the 13:39 mark of the middle stanza.
In the third period, the Oil Kings were able to push back with a couple of goals of their own.
Rhys Pederson scored his first career WHL goal 6:02 into the third after he ripped home a drive from the left-circle on setup from Jacob Hoffrogge.
