RECAP: Oil Kings fall to Broncos
Edmonton, AB – The Edmonton Oil Kings were doubled up 6-3 by the visiting Swift Current Broncos on Friday night at Rogers Place.

An action packed first period saw the Broncos race out to a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes of play.
Tyson Laventure got the Broncos on the board first 6:46 into the game after sifting a shot through a maze of bodies in front of the Edmonton net.
The Oil Kings quickly responded as exactly two minutes later Marshall Finnie on a nice setup from Roan Woodward and Joe Iginla roofed a shot from the slot for his ninth goal of the season. With his assist, Iginla collected his first career WHL point.
Swift Current restored their lead just under four minutes later as Carson Birnie snapped a shot just inside the far post from the left-circle after taking a nifty drop pass from Luke Mistelbacher.
The Broncos added to their lead with 4:57 left in the period with Maddix McCagherty cashing in on a net front pass from Laventure.
A wild second period would see the teams combine for four goals with a pair each.
The Broncos scored the first two of the period to expand to a 5-1 lead with Josh Filmon and Zach Turner each finding the back of the net in the opening 6:20 of the period.
Late in the period, the Oil Kings would get themselves back in the game courtesy their power play as both Marc Lajoie and Ty Nash capitalized on Edmonton man-advantages in the final 5:32 of the frame.
Lajoie pounded home his 10th of the season with a rocket of a shot from the right-circle of the Broncos zone setup my Matthew Gallant who notched his first point as an Oil Kings.
Just over three minutes later, Nash buried a rebound in front of the Broncos net for his fifth goal of the season after a low shot from Lajoie created the chance.
In the third period, the Broncos would counter the two Oil Kings power play goals with one of their own just 2:09 into the final stanza as Filmon fired home his second of the game and that would be all the offence in the period as Swift Current skated to a 6-3 win.
Beckett Langkow and Kolby Hay combined for 27 saves for the Oil Kings, while Joey Rocha made 27 as well for the Broncos. Edmonton went 2-for-4 on the power play, Swift Current was 1-for-4.
