GAME DAY: Hurricanes Welcome Oil Kings to Open Three-in-Three Weekend
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes open the 2025 portion of their schedule tonight at 7:00pm as they welcome the Edmonton Oil Kings to the VisitLethbridge.com Arena in the first of a three-in-three weekend.
The Hurricanes (19-12-1-1) enter after earning a 2-1 win on Monday in Red Deer against the Rebels at the Peavey Mart Centrium. Brayden Edwards and Noah Chadwick scored in the win while Jackson Unger made 27-saves in the win. Lethbridge ended a six-game road losing streak with the win in Red Deer. The ‘Canes enter tonight with a 14-2-1-0 home record this year having won their last six home games.
The Oil Kings (18-14-1-1) enter after suffering a 4-1 loss on Wednesday to the Calgary Hitmen at Rogers Place. Landon Hanson scored the lone goal in the win while Ethan Simcoe make 25-saves in the defeat. Edmonton enters with a 7-3-0-0 record in their last 10 games while having posted a 7-9-1-1 record on the road this season.
Tonight will be the second of eight meetings on the year between the Hurricanes and Oil Kings, and the first of three meetings this weekend. Lethbridge has posted a 1-0-0-0 record against Edmonton this season. 2024 In Review: The ‘Canes ended the 2024 calendar year on Monday with a 2-1 victory over the Red Deer Rebels. Lethbridge improved to 19-12-1-1 during the 2024-2025 regular season with the win. The Hurricanes ended the calendar year of 2024 with a 35-25-5-1 record in 66 games during the year.
Central Diet: Lethbridge is in a stretch of nine consecutive games against Central Division opponents on Friday. The Hurricanes will face the Medicine Hat Tigers three times, Edmonton Oil Kings three times, Red Deer Rebels twice and Calgary Hitmen once during the stretch. Gus What: On December 27th, the Hurricanes announced the acquisition of 2004-born forward Jordan Gustafson from the Seattle Thunderbirds in exchange for overage forward Hayden Pakkala, two third-round draft picks and a fifth-round pick. Gustafson, who won a WHL Championship with the T-Birds in 2023, is a signed NHL prospect of the Vegas Golden Knights.
Unger Stellar: Jackson Unger has been outstanding since joining the Hurricanes. In his seven starts, the Calgary, AB, product has posted a 7-0-0-0 record with a 1.57 GAA and a .938 SV% while going a perfect
6-0-0-0 in his six starts on home ice. Unger was named the WHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending December 15th. He has an 11-11-3-1 record on the season with a 3.62 GAA and a .897 SV%.
Ying & Yang: Logan Wormald and Brayden Edwards have combined for 77 points (34g-43a) this season. The duo have assisted on 17 of their 34 goals this year with Edwards assisting on nine of Wormald’s 18 goals and Wormald helping on seven of Edwards’ 16 goals. World Junior Trio: Three Hurricanes have attended the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ottawa with Brayden Yager (CAN), Vojtech Port (CZE) and Leo Braillard (SUI) all representing their country for the second-straight year at the World Juniors. Braillard finished the tournament tied for the team lead in points while leading Switzerland in goals with three. He was named one of the Swiss’ top-3 players.
World Junior Manager: Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt is leading the 2025 Canadian National Junior Team for the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ottawa. It is the second straight year Anholt has served in the role after leading the 2024 tournament which saw Canada eliminated in the quarter final. Hurricanes alumnus Brent Seabrook is also serving in the management group.
