GAME DAY: Hurricanes Open Homestand Against Rebels
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes will open a three-game homestand tonight at 7:00pm as they welcome the Red Deer Rebels at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
The Hurricanes (0-2-0-0) enter after suffering a pair of losses to the Medicine Hat Tigers on opening weekend, the most recent a 5-1 defeat in Medicine Hat on Saturday. Logan Stuart scored his first WHL goal in the defeat while Leif Oaten made 28-saves in the contest. Lethbridge was outshot 33-31 in the game while going 1/7 on the power play and 3/3 on the penalty kill. The ‘Canes have lost 11-straight games dating back to last season.
The Rebels (0-1-0-1) enter after two defeats on opening weekend themselves after suffering a 3-1 loss to the Edmonton Oil Kings on Saturday night. Kalder Varga scored the lone goal in the game for the Rebels while Matthew Kondro turned aside 23 of 25 shots he faced. Red Deer outshot Edmonton 42-26 in the game despite the loss.
Tonight will be the first of eight games this season between the Hurricanes and Rebels; Last year, Lethbridge posted a 1-6-1-0 record against Red Deer. VS. REBELS: Tonight will be the first of eight meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and Rebels. Last year, the ‘Canes posted a record of 1-6-1-0 in eight contests against the Rebels, but have posted an impressive 47-21-5-1 record against the Rebels dating back to February of 2015. Lethbridge has posted an all-time record of 119-96-10-7 with eight ties against Red Deer while going 71-38-4-2 with two ties all-time on home ice against the Rebels.

Home Cookin’ to Start: The Hurricanes will open a three-game homestand tonight against the Red Deer Rebels. Lethbridge will host Red Deer along with the Prince Albert Raiders and Calgary Hitmen on their homestand before starting a stretch of four of five on the road. The ‘Canes will play five games at home and six road games in the month of October.
Rookie of the Week: Rookie forward Dayne Beuker was named the WHL Rookie of the Week for opening weekend. The Humboldt, SK, product collected three points (1g-2a) in the opening two games factoring in on both goals for the Hurricanes. He scored his first WHL goal in the Dairy Queen Home Opener against the Tigers. Beuker made his WHL debut 1,227 days after being drafted by the ‘Canes in the 2023 WHL Draft.
Oh, Captain: Prior to their home opener, the Hurricanes announced their 2026-2027 leadership group which is led by overage forward Owen Berge who was named the 34th Captain in team history. Carsen Adair, Kyle Heger, Dayne Beuker and Logan Stuart will all serve as Alternate Captains for the year.
The 40th: The ‘Canes are celebrating their 40th anniversary in Lethbridge during the 2026-2027 season. The Hurricanes began playing in the windy city in the 1987-1988 season after the Calgary Wranglers were relocated to Lethbridge. The franchise spans back to the originally Western Canadian Hockey League dating back to 1967 beginning as the originally Winnipeg Jets before changing names to the Winnipeg Club and Winnipeg Monarchs before the franchise moved to Calgary in 1977.
Four-Pack: The ‘Canes ended the 2026 Pre-Season schedule with an 0-4-0-0 record after suffering a 7-3 loss to Calgary on Sunday afternoon at Seven Chiefs Sportsplex. Lethbridge posted a record of 0-2-0-0 on home ice and on the road, including a pair of defeats to the Medicine Hat Tigers.
Back from Camp: A quartet of Hurricanes players have returned to Lethbridge after attending National Hockey League Rookie Camps. Logan Stuart and Gavin Lesiuk attended the Washington Capitals Rookie Camp, Dayne Beuker was with the New York Rangers while Kyle Heger participated with the Edmonton Oilers Rookie Camp. Stuart, Lesiuk and Beuker also attended summer development camps with their teams.
Returners: Of the Hurricanes 25-man roster, a total of 16 players are returning from last season, including two goaltenders, six defencemen and eight forwards. Of the 16 players, five of the top-six scorers from last year return for another season including Easton Daneault, Owen Berge, Kade Duell and Kyle Heger.
Top-3: The ‘Canes enter the 2026 Pre-Season schedule with just three overage players on their roster. Owen Berge, Kade Duell and Nathan Maloney return as the three 2006-born players the Hurricanes will carry to begin the season. Of the three, only Maloney sat outside the top-5 in team scoring last year.
