RECAP: Hitmen Close Out Opening Week 3-0
Calgary, AB – The Calgary Hitmen continued their perfect start to the season, extending their win streak to three games with 6-1 victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings. It marks the first time Calgary has opened a season 3-0 since the 2015-16 campaign.
Carter Sanderson returned to the lineup following Pittsburgh Penguins training camp and made an immediate impact, recording his first WHL goal and adding two assists for a three-point night. Artem Katsuro followed suit with a three-point performance of his own, scoring twice and adding an assist.
Wyatt Pisarczyk opened the scoring in the first period, netting his first goal of the season on the power play. Edmonton’s Aaron Obobaifo answered with a power play goal of his own to even the score heading into the second period.
Katsuro restored the Hitmen’s lead early in the middle frame, finishing off a beautiful cross crease pass from Sanderson for his first of the night. From there, the floodgates opened as Brennan Brown scored his third goal in as many games on the power play to extend Calgary’s lead. The Hitmen continued to pour on the offence in the third period, with Sanderson scoring his first WHL goal before Andrei Molgachev and Katsuro added goals to complete the scoring.
Calgary will have a seven-day break before returning to action next Saturday, Oct. 3 in Lethbridge against the Hurricanes. The Hitmen then return home the following day on Sunday, Oct. 4 to host the Regina Pats in a 2:00 p.m. puck drop at Scotiabank Saddledome. It will be the first Sunday Funday of the season presented by Brookfield Residential.
