RECAP: Calgary Falls to Victoria 5-2
Calgary, AB – The Calgary Hitmen welcomed the Victoria Royals to the Scotiabank Saddledome Monday afternoon for a Thanksgiving Day matinee.
A four goal effort from Hayden Moore and solid goaltending from Victoria kept the Calgary Hitmen at bay in a 5-2 loss to the Royals. The Royals opened the scoring just 40 seconds into the game with a goal from Cameron Schmidt, before Moore added his first of the afternoon five minutes later to give Victoria an early two-goal lead.
Moore struck again in the second period before the Hitmen responded with Artem Katsuro’s fourth goal of the season, finishing off a beautiful play set up by Calder Hamilton. Calgary pulled within one on the power play, with Julien Maze finding the back of the net to make it a 3-2 game. Momentum would shift back to the Royals in the third period where Moore completed his four-goal performance, including a shorthanded marker, to secure a 5-2 victory for the Royals.
Calgary finished the game with a perfect penalty kill, killing all seven Victoria opportunities. Aidan Hesse started in today’s game where he made 32 saves. Calgary’s record now falls to 4-3-0-0 and currently sit sixth in Eastern Conference.
Calgary has a three-day break before swinging back into action on Friday’s, Oct. 16 when the Lethbridge Hurricanes visit Scotiabank Saddledome at 7:00 p.m. Less than 24 hours later it’s another home date for the Hitmen as on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 1:00 p.m. Red Deer will be in the ‘Dome.
