Segal Shines Again
Mark Segal earned first star honours for the 4th time in the last 5 games as he made 36 saves for his third shutout of the year to lead the Vancouver Giants to a 3-0 victory over the Everett Silvertips Wednesday night at Comcast Arena in Everett.
Neither team managed to find the back of the net in the opening frame, despite each firing 12 shots on the net.
Vancouver did not take long to get on the board in the 2nd period, as Mark Reners scored his first goal in a Giants uniform just one minute in, finishing off a nice passing play from Brendan Rowinski and James Henry to make it 1-0. Just 2:30 later on a 5-on-3 power play Craig Cunningham snapped home his 10th of the year to put Vancouver in front 2-0. Before the period was out, Matt MacKay converted a nice feed from Gallagher to give the Giants a 3-0 advantage through 40 minutes.
Segal shut the door the rest of the way, making 12 saves in the third period for a total of 36 on the night for the shutout.
The Giants continue their 3 game road swing through the state of Washington Friday night in Tri-City. A rematch of last year’s WHL Western Conference Fina, which the Americans won in 6 games. Game time is 7:05pm. Pregame show begins at 6:35 on AM 650.
