Hockey Day In Canada Victory
The Vancouver Giants celebrated Hockey Day In Canada with a 3-2 win over the Kamloops Blazers Saturday night at Takhini Arena in Whitehorse, Yukon. Over 1,500 fans jammed the rink to see the Giants earn their 30th victory of the season.
After some early jitters from both teams, the Blazers got on the board first scoring with the man advantage. That would stand as the lone goal of the period. Vancouver trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes.
The Giants responded in the 2nd period on their own power play as Andrej Stastny scored his 7th of the season to tie the game at 1-1. Later in the frame, Brendan Gallagher put the Giants in front 2-1, potting his 37th of the year. However, Kamloops would even it up before the period was out. 2-2 was the score through 40 minutes of play.
The third period went back and forth, but Vancouver would get the winner with 2:45 remaining in regulation as Gallagher tipped home a Spencer Bennett shot for his 2nd of the game, 38th of the year. Mark Segal made 26 saves for his 23rd win of the saeason.
Vancouver is back in action next Wednesday when they play host to the Kelowna Rockets at the Pacific Coliseum. Game time is 7:00pm. The pregame show begins at 6:30pm.
