The Vancouver Giants are pleased to announce that Dalton Sward has been named team captain for the 2014/15 season while Jackson Houck, Joel Hamilton and Mason Geertsen have been named alternate captains.
Sward is entering his fifth full season as a member of the Giants. The 20-year-old wore the captain’s ‘C’ late last season after former captain Dalton Thrower was ruled out for the year. Houck was a third round pick of the Giants in the 2010 Bantam Draft, going 57th overall. The North Vancouver product is currently away from the G-Men participating in Edmonton Oilers training camp after he was drafted by the club at 94th overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. The 19-year-old has tallied 65 goals and 73 assists in 191 career games with the Giants.
Hamilton came to the Giants via a trade with the Red Deer Rebels in the summer of 2013. Hailing from Cochrane, Alberta, Hamilton scored 13 goals and 33 assists in his first season with the G-Men in 2013/14. The 20-year-old previously spent two seasons in Red Deer and has played 184 games in the WHL.
Geertsen was acquired by the Giants from the Edmonton Oil Kings in October of 2012. The 19-year-old blue liner is currently at Colorado Avalanche training camp after they drafted him at 93rd overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
