Steenbergen gets invited to Hockey Canada World Junior selection camp
Hockey Canada announced the selection camp invite list for Canada’s National Junior team for the upcoming IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships. Swift Current Broncos forward Tyler Steenbergen was among 13 players from the WHL to get an invite.
The 19-year-old from Sylvan Lake, AB will make his first appearance at the selection camp. For the season, Steenbergen ranks second in WHL scoring with 61 points (35g-26a), only trailing teammate Aleksi Heponiemi. His 35 goals marks a league best. Furthermore, Steenbergen also suited up for Team WHL in the 2017 CIBC Canada Russia Series, amassing one goal in two games.

Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Selection Camp will be held at the Meridian Centre, the home of the Ontario Hockey League’s Niagara Ice Dogs, and feature a trio of games – two against a U SPORTS team on Dec. 13 and 14, and a game against Denmark on Dec. 15.
Following the four-day camp, Canada will pare down its roster to the final group of 22 players that will proudly wear the Canadian jersey in Buffalo, Dec. 26-Jan. 5, as they seek to win the nation’s 16th World Juniors gold medal.
