Broncos’ Flodell named WHL Goaltender of the Week

Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today that Swift Current Broncos goaltender Logan Flodell has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Week and the league nominee for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending October 15, 2017.
Flodell, a product of Regina, Sask., won both his starts this week as the Broncos, the second-ranked team in the Canadian Hockey League, retained their lead in the East Division and Eastern Conference.
Tuesday, Flodell turned aside 45 shots in a 6-2 home victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Flodell’s presence was felt in the third period, as he shut down the visiting Hurricanes while the Broncos mounted a four-goal period to take over the game.
Friday, Flodell turned aside all 38 shots sent his way as the Broncos fended off the Vancouver Giants in front of their home crowd. Flodell stopped 17 shots in the first, eight more in the second and 13 more in the third for his seventh career WHL shutout.
Flodell was named the WHL’s first star of the night Friday in recognition of his efforts.
Through seven games this season, Flodell is a perfect 7-0-0-0 with a goals against average of 2.00 and .940 SV%. Of goalies who have played more than one game this season, Flodell leads the league in goals against average and SV%. His seven victories also have him tied for the league lead with Victoria Royals goaltender Griffen Outhouse. Flodell also moved into a tie with five other goaltenders for the league’s shutout leaders with one.
The Broncos are in action next on Friday, October 20 (7:00 p.m. MDT) when they head to southern Alberta to tangle with the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
