Broncos Take Dominating Victory Over Oil Kings
Nine different Broncos got on the scoreboard to lead the Swift Current Broncos to a dominating 8-2 victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings at the Oil Kings Annual Pre-Season Invitational Saturday night.
Rookie defenceman Brycen Martin would open the scoring roughly seven minutes in to give the Broncos an early lead. But, Edmonton’s Curtis Lazar would tie it up before the end of the first frame capitalizing on a Slashing call to Bronco Glenn Gawdin.
Just over 30 seconds into the second period defenceman Bobby Zinkan would restore the Broncos one goal lead following through off of a feed from Coda Gordon. But, once again the Oil Kings would lock it up just under a minute later. Graeme Craig would revive the Broncos lead one more time around the 16-minute mark of the second period as Swift Current would lead 3-2 heading into the third.
Overage forward Ryon Moser would kickstart the Bronco scoring with an un-assisted shorthanded marker just over a minute into the final frame. Tanner LeSann would follow suit tallying his first in a Bronco uniform with help from his former Yorkton Harvest linemate Dakota Odgers. Gordon would light the lamp not once, but twice, following the LeSann goal to put the Broncos up by five. While Eric Walker would seal the deal in the dying seconds of play to make it a 8-2 final.
The Broncos were outshot 37-20 and went 1 for 4 on the man advantage, while the Oil Kings went 1 for 8. Swift Current now holds a 1-1 record in the 2012-13 pre-season.
