Broncos Fall to Rockets
A four point night for Adam Lowry wouldn’t be enough as the Swift Current Broncos fell 6-5 to the Kelowna Rockets at Prospera Place.
Broncos captain Lowry would follow through off of a feed from Coda Gordon to give Swift Current an early lead notching his 12th of the season 32 seconds into play.
The Broncos would hold onto their one goal lead until roughly six minutes into the second period when recently acquired Brett Lernout would get two minutes for roughing resulting in the Broncos second penalty kill of the evening. Lowry would cut into the Rockets momentum in the dying seconds of the penalty kill tallying a shorthanded marker and extending Swift Current’s lead to two. Rockets’ Zach Franko would respond for Kelowna seconds later to make it 2-1. A slashing call to Colten Martin would result in a Bronco power play, where Lowry would capitalize and record the hat trick (his second of the season) to put Swift Current up by two. But, in the dying seconds of the second frame Ryan Olsen would put Kelowna within one for the second time on a power play marker to make it 3-2 after two periods.
By the midway mark of the final frame JT Barnett and Madison Bowey would add singles to give Kelowna their first lead of the evening. Following the Rockets fourth goal Dillon Heatherington would be penalized for high sticking forcing the Broncos onto their fourth penalty kill of the evening, but the play would go the Broncos way as rookie Zac Mackay would notch a beautiful shorthanded marker to lock the contest up at four. Unfortunately, under a minute later Dylen McKinlay would restore Kelowna’s one goal lead on his eighth of the season, followed by a goal by Cody Fowlie to extend the Rockets lead to two goals. The Broncos would pull netminder Eetu Laurikainen in the dying minutes of play for the extra attacker. Gordon would capitalize on the man advantage with 30 seconds remaining in play to put Swift Current within one. Unfortunatley that would be the final goal of the contest as the Broncos would fall 6-5 at Prospera Place.
The Broncos were outshot 23-19 and went 1 for 6 on the man advantage.
UP NEXT: The Broncos visit the Vancouver Giants at the Pacific Coliseum on Friday night. Then, the Broncos take on the Victoria Royals at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre Saturday evening.
