Broncos Fall to Raiders in Shootout
The second of back-to-back shootouts wouldn’t go quite the way the Swift Current Broncos wanted as they fell 3-2 to the Prince Albert Raiders Wednesday evening at the Credit Union iPlex.
The contest would remain scoreless until seven minutes into the second frame when Raiders’ Logan McVeigh would open the scoring with his 11th of the campaign to give Prince Albert a 1-0 lead.
Levi Bews would strike back for the Broncos under a minute into the third period with his ninth of the season and lock the contest up at one. Graham Black would follow suit for the Broncos near the midway mark of the final frame to give Swift Current their first lead of the contest. But, in the final minute of play Prince Albert would pull netminder Cole Holowenko for the extra attacker and in the final 10 seconds of regulation Anthony Bardaro would even it up once more and send the contest to overtime.
Shots were relatively even in the additional frame with neither team scoring the much-needed game winner. But in the shootout Bews would be the only Bronco to beat netminder Holowenko while Mark McNeill and Anthony Bardaro would find ways past netminder Jon Groenheyde to make it a 3-2 final.
The Broncos were outshot 43-36 and went 0/2 on the man advantage.
UP NEXT: The Broncos head to Brandon, MB to take on the Wheat Kings at Westman Place on Friday. Then, the Broncos travel to Moose Jaw to battle the Warriors at Mosaic Place on Saturday.
BRONCO BANTER:
Levi Bews (1G,1A) had a two-point night. This would mark his third multi-point game of the season (all three as a Bronco). In the last four games, Bews has tallied four goals and one assist.
With the assist, Ryon Moser reached the 50 point mark of his WHL career. He (1G,4A) is also on a five-game point streak.
