Broncos Dethrone Royals
A 38-save effort by netminder Jon Groenheyde lead the Swift Current Broncos to a 3-1 victory over the visiting Victoria Royals Tuesday night.
Birthday boy, Brad Hoban would put the Broncos on the board with his 12th of the season eight minutes into play.
The contest would remain 1-0 until the 15 minute mark of the second frame when Victoria’s Robin Soudek would round up the game tying goal. But, shortly after Bronco captain Taylor Vause would respond for Swift Current with his 24th of the season restoring the Broncos one goal lead.
Victoria’s Logan Nelson would head to the sin bin for Slashing near the middle mark of the final frame allowing defenceman Reece Scarlett to capitlize on the man advantage to up the Broncos lead to two. In the final minutes of play, Victoria would pull netminder Keith Hamilton for the extra man but the Broncos would destroy any goal scoring opportunities making it a 3-1 final.
The Broncos were outshot 39-28 and went 1/2 on the man advantage.
UP NEXT: The Broncos host the Edmonton Oil Kings on Friday. Then, they travel to Medicine Hat, AB to take on the Tigers on Saturday.
BRONCO BANTER:
Taylor Vause (1G,1A) and Richard Nedomlel (2A) had multi-point games.
Daniel Dale (6′, 216 lbs) and Victoria’s Tim Traber (6’2″, 192lbs) dropped the mitts. This would mark Dale’s 11th fight of the season.
Graham Black played his 50th game of his WHL career.
