Swift Current, Sask. – The Swift Current Broncos are perfect after night one of the pre-season after a 7-2 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors on Thursday night.
Maddix McCagherty led the way offensively for the Broncos with four points including two goals.
“Obviously a great start, getting the first win out of the way,” he said after the game. “I thought the boys played pretty good, we were doing everything right, our compete was high.”
The Broncos got on the board early with a Sawyer Dingman deflection goal just a minute and a half into the hockey game. Moose Jaw would respond just over a minute later, but that would be as close as things would get after that.
Luke Mistelbacher scored in the second period along with McCagherty’s first of the evening. Then the floodgates opened in the third with another McCagherty goal to make it 4-1 before the Warriors responded to make it 4-2. The Broncos ran away with it after that as Connor Gabriel, Ty Coupland, and Van Eger all scored to make it 7-2.
McCagherty was in on four straight goals in the contest, assisting on two after his two tallies.
“It’s a nice confidence booster, hopefully it keeps going,” McCagherty said. “I thought I played pretty good.”
Berney Weston stopped 23 of 25 shots he faced in the victory.
The Broncos will be back in action on Saturday in Assiniboia taking on the Warriors once again.
