Broncos Host Pats on Saturday Night, Game to be Broadcasted on WHL on Shaw & Access7
The Regina Pats make their way east to take on the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday, January 21st on WHL on Shaw & Access7 Communications.
This year, the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame Board of Directors is pleased to announce the 2017 inductees in a special pre-game ceremony set to occur prior to puck drop. Joining these future hall of famers is Blair Davidson – co-chair of the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame Board of Directors and Greg Haubrich, Director with the Saskatchewan Hockey Association Board of Directors.
The Saskatchewan Hockey Association celebrated its 100th year of existence in the province during the 2012-13 season with the opening of the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame in the Credit Union i-Plex, home of the Swift Current Broncos.
Aleksi Heponiemi and the Swift Current Broncos are 7-1-0-1 over their past nine contests at home and will battle the Regina Pats for the third of eight regular season meetings. The Broncos are coming off a thrilling 5-4 shootout victory over the Red Deer Rebels on Sunday, January 15th in which Heponiemi scored the lone shootout goal to seal the win.
The Finnish forward leads all WHL rookies in scoring with 55 points (16g-39a) to go along with a plus-13 rating while playing in all 47 games this season. Forward Tyler Steenbergen has been hot on the score sheet as of late, having collected 17 points (8g-9a) in his last nine contests and the 18-year-old also enters the night third in the league in goal scoring amongst all WHL skaters with 34. Swift Current sits third in the WHL East Division standings with a record of 25-14-3-5 and have second place in sights as they trail the Moose Jaw Warriors by only five points.
Meanwhile, the number one ranked Regina Pats are coming off an 8-5 loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday night after earning a pair of victories over the Prince Albert Raiders last weekend. The Pats own the best record in the Eastern Conference with a 29-6-6-1 mark, including a league best 227 goals scored. Pats forwards Sam Steel and Adam Brooks are sitting number one and two in the WHL scoring race with 80 points (33g-47a) and 76 points (25g-51a) and are seeking their third straight win against the Broncos after winning their two previous meetings earlier this season.
